Erebus Drivers hunting for more success in Tasmania

Erebus Motorsport drivers Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown are optimistic heading into round three of the Supercars Championship after a strong showing at Sandown.

Kostecki is riding high after race two at Sandown. Starting seventh, he drove one of the best races of his young career gaining five places to end up second, grabbing his first ever Supercars podium.

Looking back on the first two rounds of the season both Kostecki and Brown admit that there have been challenges. Regardless, they are insistent that both them and the team are working well to overcome these issues and put together a strong race package.

Upon reflection, Kostecki is happy with the performance of both himself and the Erebus team in Melbourne. He is revelling in his first podium and eager to make his appearance in the top three a regular occurrence.

“We made a big step forward at Sandown,” he said.

“You get so close to getting a win and I’m just itching for more.

“We still need to make a few more steps to be in contention for wins.”

The biggest challenge for Brown came after crashing out of a practice session at Mt Panorama in round one.

“Bathurst was disappointing, crashing the car in practice, but the team were fantastic, they didn’t put me down,” he said.

Brown was spurred on by some unique motivation from his lead mechanic, telling him “I didn’t fix this car all night for you to go out there and be a p****!”

Symmons Plains in Tasmania is always a unique and challenging track, both Kostecki and Brown are looking forward to driving it in round three. Kostecki in particular has fond memories of success at Symmons Plains from his earlier career.

“I really like Tassie as a track, it’s where I got my first podium in Super2 back in 2018,” he said.

“It’s definitely very unique to the calendar, it’s very short, fast and quite tight as well.”

Brown is fond of the Tasmanian track and is excited about the challenge.

“It’s a short track with not that many corners, but still very technical,” he said.

“Turn 1-2 corners is very technical to stop locking.”

Both drivers are fully aware of the goals for this season and are confident that both themselves and the team can overcome the obstacles along the way.

“We’ve definitely been a little bit weak throughout the year on tyre life but we made a big step forward at Sandown,” Kostecki said.

Brown echoed his sentiments, focused on getting the best placement possible.

“We’re chasing top tens this year and the results can get even better from here on in,” he said.

The six best drivers from our two-league nights battled it out for the chance to take home both the winner’s trophy and a year’s worth of free racing at Hyperdrive.   This seasons Grand Finale was an evolution of the first. The added factor of a pitstop both during qualifying and the race was sure to spice things up. During the 20-lap qualifying session all drivers had to set a time in both Sodi and Shifter Karts. Their best lap ties from each Karts were then added together to determine the starting grid for the 60-lap endurance race.
